Dolphins sign Fred Beasley (AP)



The Miami Dolphins signed fullback Fred Beasley to a one-year contract Monday. Beasley had spent his eight-year career with the San Francisco 49ers, serving as the lead blocker for three different 1,000-yard rushers. He has appeared in 114 regular-season games, including 82 starts. Beasley has rushed for 610 yards and eight touchdowns on 183 carries, and caught 133 passes for 1,017 yards and five...

The Dolphins added another piece to their offense when they signed fullback Fred Beasley as an unrestricted free agent.

The Dolphins' surge at the end of the 2005 season has made them a team to watch next season, and the NFL acknowledged as much when they decided to make Miami the opponent for defending Super Bowl champion Pittsburgh for the first game of the 2006 season.

The Dolphins bolstered their offense last week by re-signing center Seth McKinney and adding fullback Fred Beasley, wide receiver Kelly Campbell and tight end Justin Peelle. Although officially signing a two-year contract, McKinney's deal is essentially for one year because he is set to collect a $2.5 million roster bonus in the 2007 off-season. McKinney, a starter the past two seasons, took free-agent visits to New Orleans and Houston before re-signing with the Dolphins.
